Research Areas
Total Synthesis
A main focus of the lab is the efficient total synthesis of structurally complex and biologically active natural products. The development of new methodology and application of quantum chemistry and machine learning have allowed for the synthesis of many natural products and their related family members. These syntheses enable the subsequent strategic development of analogues and testing for undiscovered bioactivity.

Methodology Development
Methodology development in the Newhouse Lab focuses on creating innovative synthetic strategies to efficiently construct complex molecular architectures. By developing new synthetic methodologies utilizing the strengths of computation and experimentation, we aim to provide scalable access to complex natural products, which are used as chemical probes to study neurological functions and dysfunctions.

Machine Learning and Data Science
Our group integrates quantum chemical calculations into the design stages of research in order to prioritize experimentation and minimize time-consuming and expensive empirical evaluation. We are applying numerous computational techniques to assist in the synthesis of structurally demanding small molecules.
